Wedding MBA DJ Gig | DJ Takeover + Planners Vault | Recap
By DJ Cam Reeve
As a Wedding DJ, one of the things I do each year is attend conferences that cater to my role as an event professional. In 2021, I decided - at the last minute and with the invite of a colleague - to get on a flight and attend the fall 2021 Wedding MBA Conference in Las Vegas. Little did I know that this would prove to be one of the greatest decisions I could have made for my business.
For those that aren’t aware, the Wedding MBA conference typically covers a range of topics related to the business of weddings including marketing, sales, business operations, and industry trends. During that first Wedding conference I attended in 2021, I took part in sessions that were hosted by DJs, wedding planners, wedding photographers, and even website/brand specialists.
When it comes to telling the story of why Wedding MBA was so pivotal for me and my business, it’s worth sharing a little backstory. Many people may not know that from 2013 to 2021, during the early years of my company, I had always focused my advertising and branding efforts on the DJ and production brand Reeverb Entertainment. However, about 3 months before the Wedding MBA conference, I decided to break out of my shell and start working on my personal brand. The time had come to sell myself instead of my company. My attendance at Wedding MBA had come at the perfect time. That 2021 conference ignited a spark in me to work diligently on strategically building my personal brand.
Fast forward to 2022. About a month before Wedding MBA, I saw a post by Chris Washburn that read “DJs attending Wedding MBA: here is your chance to DJ in Las Vegas at one of the official Wedding MBA parties - happening in an epic venue on the strip!!!”
As you can probably imagine, I was more than eager to jump on stage at a conference I first attended only a year prior. So I took the jump and submitted my 5 minute video. To my surprise, I received positive feedback and was asked to join the roster for the Wedding MBA DJ Takeover at the Hard Rock Cafe on Monday night.
DJs on the roster included TikTok famous DJ Eric Rodes, DJ Alex Updike, DJ Josh Staley and DJ Tori Vee, among many others.

Because I was already going to be attending the conference, I decided to text a few contacts that I would be down at the show. Before I knew it, myself and my friend DJ Alex Updike were being asked to DJ at the Planners Vault & Brandee Gaar’s networking event at Renaissance Las Vegas the night following the DJ Takeover at the Hard Rock Cafe.
Now let’s fast forward to the night of the DJ Takeover. There I was, standing in front of hundreds of event professionals; talk about nerves! I’ve been nervous in the past, but being placed in front of world class planners, photographers and DJs from around the world was a whole new level of pressure. I won’t lie - my nerves were a little out of control. Before I knew it, I was off and playing. The set lasted 18 minutes, and in that time I was able to fit in a handful of fun, creative song selections like bootleg Midnight Of Seventeen, About Damn Time, All Night, and Thnks Fr Th Mmrs. You can listen to the set here -
The following night DJ Alex and Myself DJed at the Planners Vault & Brandee Gaar’s Networking event. Then we went our separate ways to DJ at some exclusive afterparties in Vegas.
I’ve attended a lot of conferences over the years but this was for sure one of the funnest ones I’ve done in a while.
