DJing in Logan | My 5 + Years @ Elk Ridge Park
Every year, as the sun sets over North Logan’s Elk Ridge Park, a celebration comes to life. Hosted by Conservice, this annual event celebrating their employees brings together music, games, food, and fireworks. For the past five “non-pandemic” years I’ve had the privilege DJing in Logan for this event, setting the musical backdrop for Conservice’s grand festivities.
From my first year I have always enjoyed the energy of the Conservice family. The perfect playlist is always a welcomed challenge as their employee family, as well as the families that attend, is very diverse. I’ve experimented with various ideas over the years, from top 40 hits to classic rock anthems to early 2000s pop. This year past year, however, I took a different route, blending alternative music with early 2000s EDM, and even adding a touch of nostalgia with some timeless rock tracks.
Although this event is a blast every year, there have been minor challenges. I remember one year when the weather was, let’s say, less than ideal for us. However, the spirit of those attending never waned. Rain or shine, the open field was going to turn into a dance party, with attendees grooving to the beats and singing along to the music.
My journey DJing in Logan has been one of growth and evolution. When I began DJing this corporate event back in 2017, I saw myself as a "glorified jukebox", focusing on playing the right song at the right time. However, over the years and the year of the pandemic I found time to refine my skills. I dove deep into the art of phrasing, mixing, and blending music.
Behind the scenes, preparation for this event is no small feat. Given the size of the venue space and open park and the turnout, which ranges from 1,000 to 4,000 attendees, I bring a rather large rig, often comprising of 8-12 speakers. And just like curating the perfect playlist, I dedicate time to ensure every piece of equipment is in top shape and loaded and ready to go for the big day..
Something that is truly unique and special about this event is the firework show that happen as soon as it becomes dark. I would say of all the shows that I do that do not sell tickets to their event this is the largest private firework show in Northern Utah. This year the show was 23 minutes long. I take a moment to reflect on the joy and memories we've created together and i can’t wait for the many more!
