What am I investing in when hiring a Utah Hair and Makeup Artist for my wedding day?
Have you ever asked yourself "Why does hiring a Utah hair and makeup artist seem so expensive? Am I not just paying for the service?" Often, when booking your wedding day hair and makeup, the actual makeup and hair service is the only thing that is thought about when comparing prices. While it's true that you are paying for that service, you are also paying for much, much MORE! Let me explain.
First and foremost, you are investing in the years of experience your HMUA brings, continuing education to stay on top of trends, and professionalism. It is so important to hire someone who understands their industry. You want a HMUA who will be prompt and who understands the ins and outs of a wedding day timeline. Someone who will keep your day flowing smoothly, step in as necessary, and make adjustments if clients aren’t where they should be in the schedule.
You are investing in their quality of work and professional products.
Professional quality hair and makeup are plainly just going to cost more. Pay close attention to the artist's portfolio. Does their work match their pricing? Does their makeup and hair work look professional? Do they use proper sanitization? If you question it, don’t book with them! Hair and makeup should last all day. You should not be able to see any smudges in the makeup. You shouldn’t see any bobby pins throughout the hairstyle. Most importantly, your HMUA should have knowledge of which looks will best suit your face shape, features, hair type, etc. to ensure you get a quality service.
Quality work also means quality products! Products come with a hefty price tag, especially when buying for all hair types and skin tones. An artist working with large bridal parties can go through products very quickly, and it can get expensive fast! Although many artists have access to beauty supply stores, not all products can be bought that way.
Lastly, you are investing in their time. It takes time to answer a client's questions professionally, coordinate with event planners and bridal party members, and set a timeline for such a big day. It takes time to pack, carry all of your equipment on and off locations, set up, take down, and sanitize products/ equipment.
I hope this gives you a little glimpse of the behind-the-scenes reasons why your Utah hair and makeup artist might cost what it does on your wedding day.
