Pool Party OremFest | Orem DJ Gig

There are a lot of things I enjoy doing outdoors. For those that don’t know me (DJ Cam), If I could make a living on the lake or near the water – I’d be out boating, wake surfing or swimming every day if I could. So when I got the call to DJ in Orem at the OremFest Summer Pool Party, my answer was an obvious yes.
For over 50 years the City of Orem has held an event called OremFest. Originally known as Summerfest, it went through a name change some years back. So what exactly is Oremfest? The city’s summer celebration is made up of a lot of activities throughout the summer. It used to be a simple one day celebration with a parade and fireworks but now comprises a series of dates spread out during the year. Activities and events taking place this year include Oremfest Rev Road Rally, the Scera Pool Party with a DJ, Oremfest Chartity Golf, Summer Nights Dream, Orem Family Day, Orem’s Got Talent, Rotary pancake breakfast, the Grand Parade, fireworks and much more.
So where does DJ Cam come in? Well, I got the chance to DJ in Orem at the Summer Pool Party that took Place on June 6th, 2023 at the Scera Pool from 6-8:30pm. Guests enjoyed the pool with half-price admission and concessions. Oremfest provided free ice cream as guests entered with the help of their sponsors. To top it off, they added in an Orem DJ (that’s me) with some tunes and giveaways.’

When I first met the committee members of OremFest, they shared that OremFest is known for its sense of community and family. With this in mind, they wanted to build a soundtrack that hit a mix of genres and eras. I played everything from Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, Beyonce, Cyndi Lauper, and Earth, Wind & Fire, to AC/DJ, Kiss, Van Hellan, Carly Rae Jepson, Shania Twain and more! Because the majority of the people in attendance were kids under the age of 12, we played a lot of kids sing-along songs with a mix of trending tik tok songs.

If you’re familiar with Utah’s 2023 spring and summer seasons, you understand what I mean when I say the weather has been less than optimal for outdoor events. Sadly, at this pool party we had to end early by about 30 minutes due to lightning coming a little too close to the pool!
As a DJ, weather is always a concern for me because I have a lot of equipment that I need to keep in optimal shape for my events. My setup was fairly simple for the Summer Pool Party – I provided a simple DJ booth with my controller, a wireless mic for announcements and 2 twelve-inch speakers with a single fifteen-inch sub. This setup provides a clean sound that is not overbearing for listeners. This type of system is great for events that want to be able to talk clearly and hear the music without it taking over. As per my conversation with my contact at Orem Fest, they provided a 12’ canopy for me to keep me protected from the elements. I am very grateful to the team at Orem Fest for having me and for putting me under the tent – it did end up raining and because we had the ten I was able to continue until the weather closed the pool!
I had a blast with OremFest as their Orem DJ entertainment for the Summer Pool Night. My highlights for this event were the sing-along moments when everyone in the pool was screaming the lyrics to the songs. After a little encouragement from me on the mic, we had a full-on dance party in the pool!
