Loveland Living Planet Aquarium DJ Gig | Recap
By DJ Cam Reeve
There are quite a few interesting venues in Utah, but few rival the uniqueness of “The Claw” at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium. The event we’re going to recap today took place on this unique stage, which has a backstory that not everyone is familiar with. If you’ve ever taken a drive up the I-15 freeway at the south end of the Salt Lake valley, you’ve most likely seen The Claw off the west side of the road. Sitting outside of the Living Planet Aquarium, The Claw was actually once the traveling 360-degree stage for the internationally-known band U2! Upon its completion, it was the largest concert stage ever built. Now, it stands in front of the aquarium and serves as the venue for a variety of events, including the one we’re going to tell you about today, “Taste Off Utah.”
Utah is known for its scenic beauty, outdoor activities, and its unique food culture. One company is bringing the best of Utah's cuisine right to your doorstep - Taste Off Utah. Taste Off Utah is a company that offers an exciting way to experience local Utah food. What started with a simple cookie party has become a super fun business who host multiple events a year. They offer various food items, including cheese, salsa, macarons, mac and cheese, hand pies, rice krispie treats, donuts, cinnamon rolls, cookies, BBQ, soup, and more!
The Taste off has hired us on multiple occasions to DJ at their unique events, which come in two types. The first one involves picking up food in your car - all you have to do is pre-order your kit online then choose your pick-up location, date, and time. After, drive up to their marked canopy, give them your name and order number, and they will give you your kit. You don't even have to leave your car!
Once you get home, it's time to taste. The kit includes six different treats - either sweet or savory - from six different places. Each item comes with instructions and a placemat for the taste off. It's essential to match the flavor descriptions included in the kit and check that your setup is correct by looking at the picture on their order kits tab or on Instagram. Now it's time to score each item based on appearance, taste, and texture. Once you've finished, scan the QR code at the bottom of your scoring sheet, and submit your votes. The qualifications to win are taste, texture, and appearance. It's a fun way to discover new places and compare what you thought you loved.
The second type of event is an in-person festival based around the same concept as the drive up experience. We have been lucky enough to be a part of two of these events in the last few years. One was during 2020; you know, when social distancing was required. We played music for customers as they drove up to the tent to pick up their food kit.
The other event was in person at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium under “The Claw.” This event took place in 2021 and was called the “Taco Taste Off.” Reeverb Entertainment was hired to be the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium DJ for the day. During the event, our role included setting the vibe for 4 + hours, plus making a few announcements here and there. The Taco Taste off was exactly what it sounds like! Taco trucks, along with other vendors from around the state, showed up to participate. Attendees paid for a ticket to enter and received raffle tickets. Then, they were given the chance to get food from every truck with their admission. Giving them all the chance to vote for there favorite Taco Truck. The event was a huge success, and we loved being a part of it!
