5 Things to Make Your Utah Livestream Successful
By DJ Cam Reeve
With the restrictions of the pandemic beginning to fade from everyday life, one pandemic-era convenience that seems to have stuck around is livestreaming. Events from small to large have benefited from being able to share a meeting or party’s happenings with a wider digital audience. If you’re hosting a Utah livestream at your event, here are 5 things you can do to make the stream successful.
Choose the Right Venue
Picking a venue that’s great for your event and a venue that’s conducive to livestreaming is not always the same task. Some of the most gorgeous, picturesque venues suffer from terrible internet access. This, in turn, can be disastrous for your livestream. When it comes to internet access, a direct link (within 60-200 feet of the event space) can make all the difference. Wifi is a huge variable for hosting a stream. The connection may be strong or weak, and this strength can fluctuate based on who is in the room. The signal may be strong during the pre-event check but drop off massively once the room has 100+ mobile devices in it. If you can find one, some locations allow for (data) driven hotspots tailor-made for livestreaming - these are optimal.
Recording Capabilities
Not everyone can make it to the stream as it takes place. If you’d like to offer the stream content to others after the event is over, you’ll need a way to record. This includes both video and sound, and it’s always a good idea to make sure your stream provider has a method of backup. If two cameras are in use during the event, make sure that the feed from both is being recorded separately. That way, you can piece together the footage in post for your marketing materials. Additionally, should the worst happen and you experience internet issues during the event, you have a copy of your footage to distribute later.
Lighting
Proper lighting is critical for a good-looking stream. When considering your event space, take note of the available natural light. This light should be plentiful and consistent. For longer events or those taking place in the morning or evening, lighting can change dramatically with the movement of the sun. Be aware of which direction the room’s windows face! Alternatively, choose a space where the lighting can be controlled, such as a studio. Or, as a final option, select a livestream team that offers lighting services for you.
Multiple Cameras
With the prevalence of livestreaming in 2023, people know when a stream looks good and doesn’t look good. Having a single, monotonous camera angle will do the job but will struggle to keep people’s attention. Multiple camera angles is becoming the norm, and attendees will appreciate the variety in looks. There are also additional benefits for the production team. Having multiple cameras allows one camera to be focused and prepared while the other is live. This makes transitions between speakers or moments seamless. It also provides a backup system in the unlikely event there is some sort of failure.
Dedicated Graphics Computer
As the person hiring a livestreaming company, it’s not necessary for you to know all the ins and outs of livestream equipment. However, on your end, it’s worth preparing a dedicated graphics computer to handle charts, slides, and pictures. This way, you can provide these graphics to the team ahead of time for a smoother, more polished presentation. No “techincal difficulties” the day of! Consolidate everyone’s content onto a single device and allow the livestream technician to do some testing when they arrive at the venue. They’ll check everything and make sure you’re good to go.
Make Your Utah LIvestream Successful - Final Thoughts
There are many things you can do to ensure the success of your Utah livestream. Above all else, hiring engaging speakers and choosing a comfortable, accommodating venue are key. However, keep in mind the points suggested above. Focuson good lighting, solid internet, multiple cameras, and adequate preparation time before the event after securing the initial logistics. These quick tips will go a long way into making sure your stream is polished, seamless, uninterrupted, and professional.
